If you want a classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL, we totally get it. The design is absolutely gorgeous, they actually went racing and, of course, you get those ridiculously cool gullwing doors. Good luck finding one for less than a million dollars, though. Still, while we can’t offer the same styling and racing pedigree as a 300SL, if you’re looking to scratch that gullwing coupe itch, look no further than the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT coupe that’s currently for sale on Cars & Bids.
The gullwing doors may be the SLS AMG GT’s party piece, but the engine is really what you buy this car for. Unlike the regular SLS AMG, the GT got an extra 20 horsepower, pushing total output to 583 HP and 479 lb-ft of torque, allowing it to hit 60 mph in 3.4 seconds. At a time when the Rivian R1S, a three-row SUV, is almost as quick, that may not sound as impressive now, but a decade ago, that was absolutely incredible. And let’s also not forget the sound the handbuilt 6.2-liter V8 made.
The SLS AMG GT also got an aluminum chassis, staggered wheels, a limited-slip differential, a carbon fiber driveshaft, an adaptive AMG suspension and carbon fiber trim. Plus, while the interior definitely looks dated, we like the black and red interior paired with the white paint (officially known as Designo Mystic White 2).
We can’t imagine anyone paying seven figures for an SLS AMG GT coupe, even the Black Series. So at last in that regard, you’ll probably come out ahead. That said, despite being more than a decade old, there’s no way you’re picking this car up for peanuts. As of the time of writing, bidding has already risen to $170,000. There are still places in this country where you can find a house that costs less. Topeka, Kansas can’t be the worst place in the world, right?
Do you really want to own property in Topeka, though? Or do you want an AMG supercar with gullwing doors and an engine that sounds absolutely incredible? Exactly. Buy the Mercedes. You won’t regret it.
