Chevy Cuts Silverado EV RST By $10,600 Before It Goes On Sale, Still Costs Nearly $100,000

After some fiery growing pains, Chevrolet finally announced pricing and another trim for the Silverado EV First Edition RST on Wednesday. Excluding destination charges, the Silverado EV First-Edition RST starts at $94,400. That price is a full $10,600 less than the original $105,000 price Chevy announced for the First-Edition RST two years ago. Even better is the increased range. Initially, Chevy said this First-Edition would get 400 miles of range, now, Chevy is saying the First-Edition RST will get 440 miles of range on a full charge.

That range number gives it the second-highest range rating in the Silverado EV lineup behind the 450 mile Silverado EV 4WT trim. It also easily beats out competitors like the Ford F-150 Lightning XLT and Lariat trims with the long rage battery (320 miles), Rivian R1T with the Max battery (410 miles) and even GM’s own GMC Hummer EV which can get 381 miles of range on the 3X trim. And yes this even beats the Cybertruck’s 340 miles of range.

Power for the Silverado EV RST is just as big as its range. Chevy says it makes 754 horsepower and 758 lb-ft of torque, but that max power only comes when the Silverado EV is in Wide Open Watts mode, a mode similar to the GMC Hummer EVs cringey named Watts To Freedom mode. You can also use it as a proper truck with its 10,000 pound max tow rating as well as a 1,500 pound payload rating. It also supports 350 kW DC fast charging as well as V2L capability at 7.2 kW.

In addition to standard features like an all-glass roof and Chevy’s Multi-Flex Midgate, you get other standard features like four-wheel steering, head-up display, 17-inch touchscreen display and Super Cruise.

All that range and technology comes at a cost (I mean, besides the MSRP.) A5 8,500 pounds, the Chevrolet Silverado EV RST is yet another very heavy EV. And if you think other trims of the Silverado EV will be cheaper, think again. Chevy raised the price of the W/T trim last summer, axing the promised $39,900 entry price. This means that unless Chevy decides to come out with some stripper base LT trim — which doesn’t look likely given that the next trim of the Silverado EV is an off-road Trail Boss, you won’t be able to get into a Silverado EV for less than $79,800.
