'Twisters' Looks Like Another Ram Commercial, And That's A Good Thing

1996's "Twister" is the greatest car commercial of all time, and the new movie looks like it'll carry on that legacy.

It’s no secret that “Twister” is one of my favorite movies (and car commercials) of all time, so you can imagine how excited I was when the new trailer for “Twisters” blasted across my TV during the Super Bowl on Sunday night. As excited as I am for the movie as a whole – especially Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones – what I am really excited about is the fact this movie is clearly another Dodge/Ram commercial.

I know, I know. I’ve made fun of vehicle product placement in movies before, but this is different. This is “Twisters.” “Barbie” being a GM ad didn’t make any little kids yearn for a Blazer EV or a Suburban, but “Twister” made every little kid in America want a red Dodge Ram 2500. I know I did. That same Ram-related theming can be found in the new “Twisters trailer. We’ve got no less than TWO Rams in the ad, and one of them is even red!

It almost doesn’t matter what the rest of the movie is about because we’ve got a (previous generation) dually Ram HD and a Ram TRX, but I guess it’s still important to go over. The “Dorothy” tornado-measuring instrument MacGuffin is back, of course – though we’re not sure how it’s going to be used. However, someone in the trailer mentions something about wanting to “destroy a tornado,” so I’m super excited to find out what that’s all about. There’s also plenty of yelling and southern accents. It’s sure to be a hit.

Anyway, back to the more important, more-Ram, stuff. We can see our (my) hero Tyler Owens, played by Glen Powell, using some sort of onboard auger system to dig his Ram HD into the ground to get as close to a tornado as possible. It’s outfitted with all sorts of scaffolding for various tornado hunting-related items and a huge bumper sticker on the tailgate reading “I’ll See You In Hail.” So fuckin’ badass.

Again, that’s not the only Ram. We also get to see a white TRX absolutely tearing it up in Twister-land wearing some sort of “Lion” decal on the tailgate. I can’t be sure, but it seems like some sort of allusion to “The Wizard Of Oz considering “Dorothy” plays such a big role, and it’s not like they were gonna call it the Tin Man.

I highly suggest you watch the new “Twisters” trailer, and when you’re done with that, go back and watch the original movie over and over again before the new movie premiers on July 19 of this year. I know I will.

We’re back in the suck zone, folks.
