These Are The Cars You're Most Surprised Are Still Alive

Surely, someone's going to cancel these cars eventually, right?

There’s nothing specifically wrong with the Chevrolet Malibu. It may not be on par with the new Honda Accord, but that doesn’t mean it’s a terrible family sedan. Heck, if you’re in the market for a midsize car, you can probably get an incredible deal on a Malibu while everyone else is fighting over new Camrys and Accords. At the same time, though, it’s easy to forget that Chevrolet still makes the Malibu.

On Tuesday, we asked you what other cars you had a hard time remembering were still in production or could have sworn had been canceled already. We ended up getting plenty of answers, including a few that we didn’t even realize were as old as they actually are. Let’s take a look at what you all came up with.

Long live Godzilla!

In the Year of our Lord Two Thousand and Twenty-Four, you can still buy a new R35 Nissan GT-R. It was a decade old in 2017. 2017 was seven years ago. If my math is right, it will be able to vote either this year or next year.

5th Gen 4runner has been essentially the same since 2009 with the engine and transmission being pulled from the previous generation with very little changes. The Tacoma got a new 3.5 Direct injection V6 and 6 speed auto, then a 2.4 turbo and hybrid- the 4runner is still kicking with a 4.0 V6 and 5 speed auto only.

Been for sale since 1992. Yes, it’s only been available as a cutaway since MY 2015, but this design is over 3 decades old. Took a model year off in 2020 when they switched from the old V10 to the Godzilla.

This has outlasted the Model T by over a decade (1908-1927) for reference.

Unchanged since the dark ages. I know it is a work thing and super useful. I have owned a few. No real need to change but still so so old of a design.

Lexus RC

I’m a little surprised the Lexus RC is still around. I almost never see one on the road, and although I’ve never driven one myself, the reviews I’ve read have indicated that it’s good but not great and doesn’t do much to stand out in its segment. Looking at the sales numbers they seem low and trending in the wrong direction year-over-year.

There have been some rumors that it might get a proper update at some point in the next 5 years or so, but in the meantime, I guess Lexus is satisfied with minor updates and price bumps. I honestly thought it was discontinued already, and I believe it was already yanked out of the Australian market due to updated crash safety requirements.

Subaru Legacy; Subaru’s entry in the “Yep, it’s a car” category.

I love Subarus with my whole heart and I’m sure it’s a great car. With all the Crosstrek Wilderness and Outback Wilderness hype, I don’t think it registered to me that the Legacy still exists.

How about a whole brand? After the 300 ends production Chrysler will have exactly one model- the Pacifica which has been on sale since 2017. If they don’t come out with more than a single minivan lineup in the future I would be shocked if they continue to exist.

People say the Mirage but no one mentioned the ASX/Outlander Sport?

This was a new car in 2010. It’s now 2024 and two facelifts on it’s still ‘new’.

Lexus IS500. I thought this would be a single model year limited production run but they are on year 3 of these and you can still get them. Surprising considering you can’t get a v8 lexus LS anymore and Dodge is discontinuing the v8 chargers/challengers this year! if it goes one more year it might be the only v8 sedan on the market in the usa??
