Acura has finally begun its slow march towards electrification. The brand dusted off the ZDX nameplate for its version of an EV built on a platform shared with GM and Honda. After debuting the ZDX late last year, we finally know how much it’ll cost. Acura says the ZDX will start at $64,500 when it goes on sale in spring 2024.

Acura is calling the ZDX a performance EV; the brand’s assistant vice president of national sales, Emile Korkor, described it as representing the brand’s “passion for performance in the electrified era.”

The ZDX will come in two trims. The base ZDX A-Spec starts at the aforementioned $64,500. This gets you a single-motor, rear-wheel drive configuration. With its 102-kWh battery, you get 340 hp and 325 miles of range, the most out of the ZDX lineup. If you want all-wheel drive on the A-Spec, you’ll have to part with $68,500. That gets you a dual-motor setup, but 10 fewer miles of range.

If you want performance, you’re going to want the ZDX Type S. Starting at $73,500, you get 500 hp from its dual-motor setup, but that performance comes at the expense of range: you lose 37 miles of range compared to the A-Spec, for a total of 288 miles.

Acura didn’t just make the ZDX Type S for straight-line speed, though. It actually had drivers in mind. The Type S has near 50/50 weight distribution, 15.6-inch front Brembo brakes with bright yellow six-piston calipers, customizable drive modes, height-adjustable air suspension with performance-tuned dampers and huge 22-inch 275/40ZR22 self-sealing tires. Buyers that live in warmer climates can choose a performance tire option on the ZDX Type S for $1,000 more ($74,500).

Charging the ZDX shouldn’t be an issue, since it supports fast charging at rates of up to 190 kW, resulting in 81 miles of range in just 10 minutes on the ZDX A-Spec; Acura didn’t say whether or not the Type S has the same capability, although it should be quite similar.

Charging solutions for the ZDX come in the form of home and public options for ZDX buyers. The ZDX will have three charging packages that can be included in the EVs price: A, B and C. The packages are a bundle of home charging equipment, charging credits for public charging. and installation credits for home chargers. The installation credits can be redeemed through Acura’s Home Electrification site. The site does everything from pairing ZDX owners with local installers for charger installation to providing support through energy advisors on things like charging and local incentives and rebates.

Buyers interested in the ZDX can reserve one now through a dedicated reservation site. You’ll have to act quickly though; the reservations close on January 23, 2024. So if you miss the deadline, you’ll have to wait until the ZDX starts to arrive at Acura dealers this Spring.
