If anything, the year 2019 will be a win for car colors in the U.S.—a dismal land where streets are often a boring blur of black, white and gray cars. In addition to highlighter-yellow Chevrolet Camaros and snot-green Honda Civics, this model year will also get lime-green Dodge Challenger and Charger performance trims.

Fiat Chrysler announced the color this week, saying that, for the first time in at least a few years, certain Challenger and Charger models will get to wear its “Sublime” green paint. The few trims that get the color are V8 performance ones: the Charger Scat Pack and Hellcat, and the Challenger T/A and Widebody. “Widebody” accounts for several different Challengers, like the new Redeye, but FCA didn’t list any specific ones in the announcement.
Dealers will get to start ordering the color in February, and it’s a revival rather than a new offering: FCA said Dodge made a limited number of Charger R/T Daytonas in the color in 2007, and the Challenger lineup also had it in 2015. The Challenger T/A, though, hasn’t been available in lime green since 1970.
Most people don’t go for cars with actual colors on them, so the lime-green Challengers and Chargers that will soon be on our streets probably won’t make anyone regret buying their boring silver ones. That’s just how life goes when everyone is concerned about the “resale potential” of their car colors.
But, hey, look at the bright side: The folks who know what’s up will be just green with envy. Perhaps.
