With 1,000 horsepower available, a 9,000-pound curb weight and absolutely massive proportions, the GMC Hummer EV SUV sibling, is arguably too big even for America despite our wide roads and abundant off-street parking. In a more densely populated country with narrow, curvy roads and parking spaces designed more with the Fiat 500 in mind, such as the United Kingdom, you’d think the Hummer EV wouldn’t stand a chance. And yet, as Top Gear reports, that’s not necessarily the case.

Unfortunately for companies looking to import the Hummer EV SUV into the UK, GMC currently only makes a left-hand-drive version. In theory, that should make British Hummers a no-go. Sri Lanka’s Autogroup International, however, decided to simply create a right-hand-drive conversion of its own. That required copying and then flipping the dashboard panels to create a fiberglass copy of the original. Compared to all the work it probably took to make sure all the electronics communicated with each other and worked correctly, we suspect creating the physical components was probably the easy part.

When Top Gear asked why Autogroup International would go to the trouble of converting the Hummer EV to right-hand drive, CEO Rob Hill said:

When the H2 and H3 Hummers were ‘new’, we were the largest converter of them to right-hand drive with hundreds of our Hummers still being used worldwide today. The Hummer is an iconic vehicle that has a strong place in popular culture, and after its decade-long absence from the market, the EV variant was always going to be in demand.

The iconic, muscular stature of the 2024 Hummer combined with the startling performance of the tri-motor EV is breathtaking. Autogroup International has the proven experience to take on the right-hand drive conversion for the Hummer EV SUV. And also, I wanted one. There is just something about the Hummer EV SUV that makes it special.

As you can imagine, getting a Hummer EV SUV converted to right-hand drive and then importing it legally isn’t exactly an inexpensive option. British customers looking to terrorize their neighborhood will reportedly need to be willing to part with between £185,000 and £190,000. Although, UK-to-U.S. pricing is usually more complicated than a straight currency conversion, to give you a better idea of what we’re talking about, that works out to about $235,000 on the low end.
