Things at Boeing don’t seem to be going great right now. Issues keep popping up around the 737 Max planes, leading even novice air travelers to start checking their tail numbers before boarding. Now, reports are saying the company’s safety culture may not be up to snuff. I, for one, am shocked.
For occasional travelers, the risks are small, but some folks seem intent on rebooking their flights just in case. For frequent flyers — say, those of us who fly for work — the solution is found in dark comedy, where we all wish Andy a mournful goodbye before he goes off on a press trip that has a 737 Max flight each way. While I don’t know anything about Stubb0632722's career, they’ve certainly taken the later approach to Boeing’s issues.
Now, there’s something to be said for this — some safety culture is, in many ways, better than no culture. If you’re required to wear a hard hat and steel-toe boots at your job, for example, you’re better having one of the two than neither. When you’re tens of thousands of feet in the air, though, dealing with speeds and pressures and bird strikes, it sure would be nice to have the whole culture in place.
It’s not going to stop me from flying, given the whole “it’s my job” of it all, but I’ll make sure to have my emergency contacts in order before my next flight. Maybe even go wild and get a will. My cat-ear headphones go to Andy, provided he too survives his upcoming press trips. I know they’re his favorite.
Congratulations, Stubb0632722, on your Comment Of The Day win. It sounds like you won’t be on a plane any time soon, so here’s a track about flatter pastures.
