When Genesis showed off the GV80 Coupe Concept, it seemed like the SUV was close to production. That turned out to be the case when Genesis said it was making the GV80 Coupe, and confirmed it would be taking the model through production mostly unchanged. Now that it’s getting a refresh for the next model year, the 2025 Genesis GV80 SUV is getting a stablemate with the GV80 Coupe, which will have similar design to smaller SUVs in the lineup, such as the GV70.

The Genesis GV80 is getting the sloping lines and sporty vibe of its siblings but is retaining the major components of the previous GV80 model, albeit with mild updates. The 2025 GV80 SUV will be powered by either a 2.5-liter turbocharged inline four that makes 300 horsepower, or a 3.5-liter twin turbo V6 making 375 HP. The engines are reportedly getting a boost of five to four horsepower each, according to Car And Driver but Genesis has yet to confirm.

The 2025 Genesis GV80 Coupe will have the option for an even more powerful engine than the GV80 SUV, which stacks an 48V electric supercharger on the 3.5-liter twin turbo V6, increasing output to 409 HP. That’s the same engine as that of the Genesis GV90.

So, you get G90 power in the body of a sportier SUV, which Genesis insists on calling a coupe. That can be a little confusing for people who associate the term with two-door vehicles, but the GV80 Coupe is not a two-door SUV. It has four doors; it just has different design than the GV80 SUV. It’s more of a fastback than traditional coupe, with what’s supposed to be a sleeker profile. It also has a wide, menacing stance and rides on either 20- or 22-inch wheels. That’s huge!

The rear cargo area of the GV80 Coupe is truncated relative to the GV80 SUV, with a design that slopes downward to make it appear more athletic. It wants to look faster than the SUV, and, in all fairness, it is faster. But a sloping roofline does not a coupe make. That honor should be reserved for two door vehicles, which are less popular now in the age of the crossover — for better or worse.

The 2025 GV80 SUV and Coupe make up for the misnomer in other ways, mainly their luxurious cabins. The interior is getting a facelift more dramatic than the exterior changes. The cabin gets a 27-inch OLED center screen that reaches to the driver’s side. In keeping with the theme of the wheels, it’s also huge. The HVAC controls are touch-based, which isn’t ideal, but this is a luxury SUV, after all. The accents keep on with things like the “cyrstal-like” shifter.

Of course, the GV80 Coupe will get neither the carbon fiber racing seats nor rear strut tower brace of the concept, but the production model still looks most of the way there to the vehicle that first introduced the new design. Genesis hasn’t specified pricing yet, saying the price will be announced closer to release in 2024.
